Overall Purpose of the Role

Lead the site technical team to deliver industry leading processes and systems. Develop workforce capabilities to deliver products that meet and exceed customer expectations. Strive to create a continuous improvement culture where right first time becomes the standard for every aspect of site outputs. Develop a robust people plan that includes succession planning and develops high potential employees.

Key Accountabilities

  • Leadership and People Management
  • Effectively lead the technical and wider employee teams to deliver the site and technical team business plan
  • Build a ‘one team’ culture
  • Engage all staff to deliver high performance
  • Ensure robust people development and training plans are in place and implemented
  • Effectively manage performance to ensure a highly competent workforce is developed
  • Ensure employees are trained to a competent level as minimum standard
  • Create a robust and meaningful succession plan for the Technical function

Technical Management

  • Help create and implement the food safety and quality strategy for the site
  • Create and implement a plan for delivering a food safety & quality culture, with a strong emphasis on right first time and continuous improvement
  • Implement and maintain all relevant site food/ feed safety & quality accreditations, customer COP requirements, and legal standards.
  • Lead and facilitate all technical visits/ audits on site
  • Ensure that the site QMS and HACCP is robust, accurate and fit for purpose
  • Drives up high standards of GMP at site
  • Ensure that the site food safety & quality performance achieves the targets set by the business and is continuously striving to improve
  • Deliver the annual technical budget commitments, including technical inputs which impact cheese yield and CI
  • Maximise efficiencies across the site through optimisation of CIP, chemical & water usage

 Key knowledge, skills and expertise:

  • Degree/ Diploma Qualified in a relevant science-based discipline or has extensive experience of technical management in food production
  • High level of experience & knowledge of technical aspects of dairy/ food processing and associated hygiene practices (Food handling, cleaning & disinfection etc)
  • Proficient understanding & knowledge of dairy/ food microbiology
  • Experience of working with multiple retailers
  • Level 3 Food hygiene
  • Level 4 HACCP
  • Proficient across Microsoft Office 365 suite
  • Level 4 Food hygiene (if no degree/ diploma in in a relevant science-based discipline)
  • IOSH Level 3 H&S or equivalent
