We have a fantastic opportunity for a Technical Apprentice to join our team at the Lake District Creamery. We are looking for someone with a passion to learn and a genuine interest in developing a career in the food and drink industry.

The technical apprentice will have the opportunity to learn and be involved in all aspects of a high performing technical team at an award-winning creamery while completing a Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship BSc (Hons) Food Industry Technical Professional, with Nottingham Trent University and earning a competitive salary.

The role will provide the apprentice the opportunity to develop a strong technical background in food safety & quality standards and operational compliance.

Salary: We are a Real Living Wage Employer committed to paying £12.60 per hour.

The Role

As a Technical Apprentice you will work under the guidance of our experienced Quality Team to learn and develop the skills necessary for a career in Technical. Some common responsibilities are:

  • Assess product standards (quality and safety) to the standards required for specifications, legislation and good manufacturing practice.
  • Audit the quality management systems for the safe and consistent manufacture of dairy products and corrective actions put in place to ensure technical integrity and standards are maintained at all times
  • Monitor and audit the effectiveness of corrective actions
  • Day to day liaison with other departments
  • Be the Technical voice within site problem solve teams
  • Carry out product traceability challenges, from field to fork, within the allotted timeframe
  • Regularly train colleagues in technical issued procedures and audit against these ensure compliance to training provided

To be considered for this role, you will need

  • Good communication skills
  • A willingness to learn
  • Should have or be predicted to have 3 A-Levels or equivalent qualifications at grades BBC including a science related subject. Plus Maths and English Language GCSEs at grades C/4 or above. At least 112 UCAS points.
  • Be over the age of 18 (to be able to stay away from home for University)
