We have a fantastic opportunity for an Engineering Apprentice to join our team at the Lake District Creamery. Alongside your day to day work you will be enrolled on a Level 3 Food and Drink Maintenance Engineering Course at Kirklees College. The programme lasts 4 years and will include block release to college (Year 1 – 18 weeks, Year 2 – 10 weeks, Year 3 – 10 weeks, Year 4 – 5 weeks)

Salary: Around £17,500

The Role

As an Apprentice Engineer you will work under the guidance of experienced engineers to learn and develop the skills necessary for a career in engineering. Some common responsibilities are:

  1. Assisting senior engineers with design, development, testing, and maintenance of engineering systems and components.
  2. Learning how to use engineering software and tools to analyse data, create models, and solve technical problems.
  3. Participating in hands-on work such as building prototypes, conducting experiments, and troubleshooting equipment.
  4. Following safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
  5. Collaborating with team members to contribute to projects and meet engineering objectives.
  6. Attending training sessions, workshops, and classes to further develop technical knowledge and skills.
  1. Undertake periods of protected learning (20% of time) to prepare for and meet apprenticeship standard requirements and end point assessment.

As an Apprentice Engineer, you will have the opportunity to gain practical experience, receive mentorship from experienced professionals, and work on real-world engineering projects. This role serves as a valuable stepping stone towards a successful career in engineering and offers the chance to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting.

  • Good communication skills
  • A willingness to learn
  • Qualified to 4/C level (or equivalent) in GCSE Maths & English
  • Be over the age of 18 (to be able to stay away from home for college)
