Here we still make the cheese by hand, in open vats using traditional methods that have been passed down the generations with milk sourced from two local dairy farms. The result is a smooth, rich and rounded cheese with an often-crunchy texture. Its savoury taste has a hint of sweetness complemented by nutty notes, enhancing the complexity… and making it very moreish indeed!
We’re proud of our cheddar and its fantastic taste and texture. But it’s not only us that think that - the most prestigious cheese experts in the world also agree. In 2013, Arran won ‘Super Gold’ at the World Cheese Awards and in 2017 we won silver at the British Cheese Awards for our extra mature truckle.
