2nd March 2015
At the inaugural Nestlé UK & Ireland supplier awards, First Milk picked up the top award for "Creating Shared Value".
Entries were received from national and international suppliers across 12 categories, with the Creating Shared Value award being the most competitive.
First Milk's recognition came as a result of its unique partnership with Nestlé to create a long-term sustainable supply of fresh milk into its chocolate crumb facility in Girvan, Ayrshire and its beverage/cappuccino factory in Dalston, Cumbria.
The partnership has delivered innovative programmes on increased biodiversity and milk from grass, as well as achieving meaningful reductions in carbon emissions.
Robin Sundaram (Milk Buyer - Nestlé UK) commented:
"This year we renewed our long-term partnership with First Milk, which was established in 2010. Their continued ability to proactively look for win-win solutions within our supply chain has led directly to this award. Nestlé has made an ongoing commitment to our British dairy farmers, which is consistent with our global creating shared value approach."
Shortly after accepting the award, First Milk's Sales Director - Export & Trading, Fraser Brown said:
"First Milk is a business with a passion for innovation and sustainability. This award clearly demonstrates our ability to constantly seek fresh ways of working with partners across the supply chain to drive pioneering solutions."

Creating shared value - The Milk Plan
First Milk are sole suppliers of fresh milk to Nestlé's chocolate crumb facility at Girvan in Ayrshire and their beverage/cappuccino factory at Dalston in Cumbria.
In 2010 Nestlé and First Milk launched "The Milk Plan". Since then local farmers whose milk is collected and supplied to Girvan have participated in an industry leading sustainability programme. This programme has been designed by First Milk to deliver a more sustainable supply chain and create a win-win for Nestlé and First Milk's farmer owners.
From 1 July 2014 a new group has been formed with farmers who are local to Dalston. This group will also be actively improving their farms to help Nestlé deliver a more sustainable supply chain for milk from "cow to cappuccino".
The programme today includes helping the farmers to get more of their milk from grass, improving the biodiversity of their farms and reducing the carbon emissions directly associated with milk production.
