Pembrokeshire Cheese is the very best of Welsh with a trophy double

Pembrokeshire cheese made at First Milk's Haverfordwest Creamery was crowned the very best of Welsh at the International Cheese Awards.

The west Wales masterpiece also won Champion Home International cheese at the event, which is now widely recognised as the largest cheese show in the world. 

There were also one gold and two bronze medals for the creamery across further categories. 

Site manager Tim Whittal-Williams said the 69-strong team at the creamery were 'chuffed to bits' with their trophies and medals: "We are very proud of our Welsh roots so to win the Best Welsh Cheese title and then the Champion Home International trophy is an amazing success story.  Of course, this is all down to strong teamwork between our 300-plus local Welsh dairy farmers who supply us with the finest Welsh milk, coupled with the generations of skilled cheese makers who craft our award-winning Pembrokeshire Cheese.   

 "Cheese making is both a science and an art and we are really passionate about creating the finest quality cheese.  We are therefore delighted to have defeated some of our main rivals to lift these trophies," said Tim.  

"Winning the Champion cheese award at one of the country's most prestigious shows underlines our reputation as a producer of consistently high quality award-winning cheese, which consumers love and trust.

"Here at the creamery we've always known we produce the best and most delicious Welsh cheese – now we have the silverware to prove it!" he added. 

Our success comes hot on the heels of winning a bronze medal at the Royal Welsh Show last month.
