Safety, Health & Environment Manager (SHE)

Based Maelor (North Wales)

 

First Milk Cheese Company are seeking to appoint a Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) Manager. This is a permanent position, although based at our Maelor site; this is part of a group function and flexibility to travel to travel to other company and customer UK site is essential.

 

Responsibilities include: developing and implementing the site safety, health and environment policies and procedures to ensure that all personnel comply with legislation and to drive through a programme or continuous improvement.

 

The successful candidate will ensure the effective operation of the site Chase Safety and Environment management systems, manage the legislative environmental requirements including the IPPC Permit, ISO 14001, EUETS compliance scheme, packaging waste compliance and waste management.

 

You will manage the legislative Health & Safety requirements of the site including RIDDOR reporting and compliance with regulations, be the principle  interface with Safety and Environment regulators (HSE and EA) and use the results of various audits e.g. CHASE, ISO, to develop site improvement plans in conjunctions with the site manager.

 

Additional responsibilities include: actively managing the control and Intranet issue of SHE documentation and audit the SHE performance of the LDC and Haverfordwest facilities.

 

You will currently work in a senior Health & Safety role and have knowledge of hazards, risks and control measures required within a manufacturing environment, coupled with established project management skills and excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to question and get to the root cause. You will be pc literate including Word, Excel and Powerpoint.

 

You will have qualifications including; NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent), IOSH membership with RSP Status (or equivalent, or the ability to achieve this), Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment Certificate (or equivalent), be trained Auditor in ISO14001, BS OHSAS 18001 (or equivalent, or the ability to achieve this) and have a trainer qualification such as "Train the Trainer" (or equivalent).

 

This position reports to the Group SHE Manager, Maelor.

Stock Administrator (Part-Time)

Based Lake District Cheese Company

 

First Milk Cheese Company are seeking to appoint a part-time Stock Administrator working either 2 days or 3 days per week Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, based in our Lake District Creamery in Aspatria.

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for: closing stock orders, ensuring records are updated and maintained, ensuring the product is despatched on time to the customer, raising purchase orders, processing invoices and carrying out general office filling, archiving, reception and phone duties.

 

The job requires proven experience of all aspects of stock control, intermediate level Excel and Word is essential, as is excellent communication skills (both oral and written), experience of working under pressure and to tight deadlines and applying attention to detail in work produced.

Process Technologist

Based Maelor (North Wales)

Up to £27,000

 

First Milk Cheese Company is seeking to appoint a permanent Process Technologist, reporting to the Technical Controller.

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading change management, technical & quality improvement through continuous improvement, as well as tracking progress of events leading to product change.  The role is intended to provide assistance to the Technical Controller in the decision making process and the post holder will help implement new ways of working to include 6S.

 

Duties will include working cheese grading with the Cheese Quality Managers on site, working with the NPD manager and packaging technologist to deliver factory trials, collate data and submit written reports. The successful candidate will also audit systems to ensure compliance and agree corrective actions for error cause removal and quality improvements. A key task will be the implementation of new Export product lines and to be an active part of the capital project teams.

 

You must have intermediate Food Hygiene, intermediate HACCP, manual handling and risk assessment experience. Desirable qualifications are train the trainer, internal audit qualification, IOSH and experience of change management.

Quality Technician x 2

Based Maelor (North Wales)

£17,015 +£5,067.50 shift allowance

 

First Milk Cheese is seeking to appoint a permanent 2 x Quality Technicians, reporting to the Quality Technician Team Leader. You will work on a shift pattern on an annualised hours basis.

 

The successful candidates will be responsible for legal compliance checks, ensuring that systems and equipment requirements are understood and adhered to, and comply with legislative bodies, including food and environmental safety, and health and safety, providing technical support to management and personnel on day-to-day technical issues, and provide training/retraining to management and staff, WHILST maintaining audit schedules for internal and external requirements, ensuring that ownership for completion of actions is understood and followed through effectively.

 

Duties will include: assisting in the investigation of customer complaints, and ensuring that corrective actions to avoid re-occurrence are instigated to develop the continuous improvement ethos across all departments, develop and improve communications of quality performance to management and staff, monitoring improvement and reporting accordingly. Raw material checks against specified parameters and schedules, to agreed time scales, and instigate effective corrective action, using Material Defect Reporting and Quality Failure Reporting systems and procedures. Support and assist in the day-to-day management of Olympus and other quality management systems.

 

Previous experience of problem solving, acting on your own initiative, making recommendations for action, while at all times ensuring the integrity and security of the organisation is maintained is essential.

Lead Hygiene Operator

Based Maelor (North Wales)

Salary up to £21,000 per annum- guaranteed until March 2011

 

First Milk Cheese Company are seeking to recruit a lead hygiene operative. This is a full-time, permanent position, based at our Wrexham site in North Wales.

 

Working as part of a team, the successful candidate will be required to carry out manual tasks, using machinery and materials, handling equipment where necessary as part of the manufacturing operation and meet quality, plan and cost targets.

 

You will be required to lead the Hygiene team ensuring completion of all scheduled tasks to the required standards and in accordance with standard operating procedures. Working as part of a team you will assist and support colleagues in the fulfilment of their duties. You will monitor, conduct and support all aspects of the hygiene process to ensure key performance indicators are met.

 

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • To monitor, conduct & support all fabric, equipment & environment (internal & external) cleaning on time and to the correct standards, following all safe systems of work / SOP's and reporting any issues to the Hygiene Team Leader.
  • To liaise with production management/planning to confirm line cleaning plan is adhered and where required ensure the lines required for cleaning are dismantled, cleaned and set up correctly on time and to the correct standards, following all safe systems of work / SOP's and reporting any issues to the Hygiene Team Leader
  • Understand and observe health and safety rules and be aware of the safety of self and others to promote a safe working environment. Ensure all personal protective equipment is worn at all times by yourself and others.
  • Help develop Safe Systems of Work, health & safety assessments, investigations and cleaning records.
  • Identify, communicate and implement opportunities for continuously improving working methods on all aspects of productivity, efficiency and quality to contribute to the overall success of the team.
  • Train, support and be involved in the assessment by providing feedback on others in both the use of specific pieces of equipment and in the completion of tasks, in own area of expertise.
  • Audit lines with production & quality technicians and ensure documented handover take place following cleans. Ensure that production machinery issues are reported to engineering with full records.

The successful candidate must be a team player who has a practical approach to problem solving and strives to achieve high standards in all aspects of the role. You must have basic food hygiene, COSHH, basic health and safety training and, manual handling skills.

 

It is also desirable that you are trained in carrying out accident investigations, risk and COSHH assessment and have basic HACCP.

 

You must be a good communicator with supervisory skills, and the ability to utilise and prioritise the time of yourself and others effectively and be able to identify and report Health & Safety issues within the course of your duties. You need to be computer literate with a good level of numeracy and literacy skills.

 

This position reports to the Hygiene Team Leader. Following a flexible working shift pattern, your hours of work will be based on a basic equivalent of 39 hours per week spread over a calendar year. You will also receive 4 additional hours overtime per week guaranteed until March 2011. You will be required to follow a 12 hour day and night pattern.

Quality Assurance Auditor

Based Haverfordwest

£17,500

 

First Milk Cheese company are seeking to appoint a permanent Quality Assurance Auditor, reporting to the Senior Quality Auditor. This position will be on a day shift basis, 8am - 4pm, working a 6 day rolling rota.

 

The successful candidate will carry out sampling an testing and report results to departmental managers/supervisors and ensure appropriate actions are taken. You will also be responsible for calibration of all laboratory and process equipment as per company procedures.

 

The successful candidate will ideally have experience of either working in a QA function, cheese manufacturing or dairy manufacturing environments. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills coupled with good attention to detail and organisational skills.
