Our Haverfordwest creamery played host to more than twenty invited guests when the West Wales site celebrated the first anniversary of The First Milk Cheese Company.
Among the dignitaries were Tim Bennett, Chairman of Dairy Co and a Board member of the Food Standards Agency; Malcolm Thomas of the NFU Wales; John Davies of Food Centre Wales; Claire Taylor from the Welsh Assembly as well as representatives from Farmers Union of Wales, Welsh agricultural college, Gelli Aur and representatives from local media as well as all of the leading banks.
Farmer Director Mansel Raymond and Haverfordwest General Manager Paul Rowe gave informal presentations on the recent achievements at Haverfordwest and shared some of our plans for the future, before Paul’s senior management team conducted tours of the creamery for all the guests.
Mansel commented: “The feedback from the event has been tremendous and everyone said they found it extremely useful. Our guests were impressed by the levels of investment at the creamery, as well as the professionalism and enthusiasm from the staff at Haverfordwest. We cannot under-estimate the levels of positive local PR and goodwill which this event has generated, not to mention a number of good articles in the Welsh press.”
On departure, guests were given a branded cool bag containing a selection of Haverfordwest cheese, including the latest addition to the family – the creamery’s first organic cheddar - which has just become available in Tesco stores nationwide. A specific recipe has been devised by the creamery for the organic range.
Paul Rowe commented: “Having secured Soil Association accreditation some time ago, we have been making organic cheese to a bespoke recipe and waiting for it to mature. Our Mild Cheddar is now in store at Tesco and we anticipate an extension into Medium and Mature profiles in early spring. Organic cheese is a rising market and it ties into regional provenance and a natural taste which is what consumers want.“
