| Local Representatives' Election |
Following the recent elections, we have two new Local Representatives and one re-elected Local Representative (LR). Dyfrig Griffiths becomes the new LR for Ceredigion after winning a three-way contest, while Tom Cummins won a two-way election for Northumberland, County Durham and North Yorkshire. Ogwyn Evans was returned as the Local Representative for South Carmarthenshire.Dyfrig runs the 550 acre Tafarn Y Bugail farm at Llangoedmor, Aberteifi in Ceredigion with his brother Dylan. He has a herd of 450 pedigree Holstein cows producing around 3.8 million litres per year. He is also a keen exhibitor of Holsteins both locally and nationally under the ‘Cardsland’ prefix. Tom Cummins of Russell Hall Farm in Stainsacre, Whitby, North Yorkshire, currently milks 200 cows producing 1.6 million litres on the 375 acre farm in partnership with his brother John. He has a closed herd rearing replacement heifers with the majority of work done ‘in-house’. Tom has been an active NFU member for most of his working life and he currently sits on the regional Milk Committee for North Riding and Durham. Both are delighted to have been elected as Local Representatives and are keen to get started. “I have always strongly believed in the co-operative ethos with a principle of a fair price for farmers’ milk. I look forward to representing the members in Ceredigion,” said Dyfrig. Tom added: “I am honoured to have been elected to represent the members in Northumberland, County Durham and North Yorkshire and will work hard on their behalf to support a consistently fair price for our farmer members.”Turnout for all three elections was strong with 56% in Northumberland, County Durham & North Yorkshire; 77% in Ceredigion and 87% in South Carmarthenshire. Membership Director Alan Taylor, commented: “I am delighted to welcome Dyfrig and Tom as new Local Representatives and Ogwyn on his return after a short break. I am sure they will all serve their members well and will bring new skills to the team. “I’d also like to thank Eryl Price and Terry Hodgson for their years of unstinting service as Local Representatives and I am sure members will be in touch with them directly to express their individual thanks.” |
