Our Haverfordwest cheese is now available in even more Welsh supermarkets as The First Milk Cheese Company sales teams have secured two new contracts.
Somerfield are now listing an extensive range of Welsh cheddars for the first time and our success means that we supply Somerfield with all of their private label regional cheeses – Scottish, English and Welsh cheddars.
Somerfield will be stocking mild; medium; mature and extra mature Welsh cheddar made at Haverfordwest as well as two named creamery cheeses – Afon Cleddau and a Premium Best Ever.
Meanwhile, The Co-operative now has Welsh Medium White Cheddar in both 300g and 500g sizes supplied by our West Wales creamery. Previously the retailer has only taken our Welsh Mild White Cheddar.
This extension to our contract is a further success since taking over The Co-operative contract less than four months ago and the business is also looking at opportunities for more private label as well as branded cheese, within the supermarket group.
First Milk Cheese Company, Sales & Marketing Director, Richard Hollingdale is delighted with the new opportunities: “These two successes further underline our regional cheese expertise. We are particularly pleased that we are now supplying all of our regional cheeses to Somerfield – and we are the only cheese supplier who can provide this service. It is also great to see The Co-operative extending their range with us and we are already discussing further business development ideas with them.”
The 67-strong team at Haverfordwest is also delighted. Forklift truck driver Paul Flood has worked at the creamery for 38 years and says he feels immense pride when he sees our cheese on the supermarket shelf.
“It is great to be able to walk into most of the Welsh supermarkets now and find our own Haverfordwest cheese there. I encourage all my family and friends to buy our cheese because they know it is supporting local farmers and the factory as well – and that it’s only the best from Haverfordwest!” he added.
