It is with great regret that First Milk is proposing to close our warehouse operations at Mauchline in Ayrshire and Castle Kennedy in Wigtownshire in a move to improve business efficiencies. Fourteen people across the two sites are affected by this potential closure.
It is proposed that the activities will move to our main distribution centre in Warwickshire and another warehousing operation in Shropshire that we also use.
The proposed move is aimed at improving our overall service to our customers. It has the added benefit of reducing food miles and our carbon footprint.
it is clearly a sad time for our people at Mauchline and Castle Kennedy who have always delivered excellent service levels and flexibility. Our priority now is to talk to our people at these sites on a one-to-one basis about the implications of the proposed closures.
Should the proposed closure become a reality, we will make every effort to assist with the redeployment of the people who are affected by this move.
There will be no impact on our Scottish creameries on the Isles of Arran and Bute and on the Mull of Kintyre as a result of these proposed closures. Our Highland and Island creameries remain a fundamental part of our cheese business moving forward.
