Our first launch event to celebrate the Pembrokeshire Cheese Company proved a huge success. More than 160 farmer members and invited guests toasted the future of our own Welsh cheese brand at the event in West Wales.
Guests were treated to a traditional Welsh supper before being taken through a cheese grading session by Haverfordwest technical manager Mark Jenkins and creamery cheese grader Tina Beckett (pictured).
Their double act had the audience in stitches as they taught everyone how to spot the characteristics of each of the different cheeses by looking, smelling and then tasting the cheese. Many of our members also became media stars for the night as they were interviewed by journalists from BBC Radio Wales, the Welsh TV channel S4C and local newspapers.
Marc Davies, who farms at Ciliau Fawr in Carmarthenshire, said the evening was a great confidence boost for all Welsh members. “It was a fantastic night and it is great to see First Milk creating added value for our milk by launching our own cheese brand. As a member, it gives you a good feeling to know that our business is really achieving something special.”
Members were also delighted to learn that as well as The Pembrokeshire Cheese Company logo being seen on milk tankers around the county, it will also be carried on the sides of 40 foot long articulated trucks which will be delivering cheese to our customers.
