In these days of websites and 24 hour news, getting important information to members so you hear it from us first, is what we aim to achieve.
To meet this need, the Membership Department is piloting a text message service to members’ mobile phones. To date, this service has just been used to send reminders about regional meetings – and feedback has indicated that this form of communication is effective.
And at just 5p per text if sent off-peak, it is also more cost-effective than sending a letter!
Key to the success of this service is having mobile phone numbers for members – and letting us know if you change your number.
Membership Director Alan Taylor, said: “We would encourage all members to inform the membership services team when they change mobile numbers. If you don’t receive any text messages from First Milk over the next couple of months, members are encouraged to double check the mobile number we hold for them by phoning 0141 847 6800. So far we have details for around half of the membership but we would like to increase that significantly.
“If more members participate – and we receive positive feedback from members –then we may well consider making text messaging a regular form of communication.”
