First Milk Home

First Milk members have had the option to purchase a new Fabdec milk tank at a very competitive price for some time now. Coupled with an excellent finance package from Bank of Scotland the offering from FM Direct has enabled many members to upgrade with a deal unavailable elsewhere.

One member who has made this step is Edwin Bowe, who milks 80 cows at Griggsfield farm, Allonby, Maryport in Cumbria. He opted to go on EODC last year, and had his new 4,000 litre tank installed in mid March.

It cost Edwin £11,000 but in addition to the First Milk package, he also benefited from a £2,500 grant from Farm Connect Cumbria. This convinced him to buy new rather than second hand, which he had been considering.

His milk cheque has been, and will be, £228 a month to the good because of the change, which will pay off the cost of his tank in less than four years. But Edwin will also benefit from energy savings, because his old ice bank cooler, which used to run through the night, is no longer necessary.

“We managed to squeeze in the new tank just in time. I think I will not only gain price wise but I will also save significant amounts in terms of energy, water and chemicals. It was a good incentive, and I’m very pleased I made
the move,” said Edwin.
