| Soil Samplings = Savings (September 07) |

Ensuring a good deal on fertiliser isn’t the only benefit that comes with First Milk Direct. Alan Warrington farms 250 cows at Eccleshall, Staffordshire, and with an annual bill of around £12,000 for fertiliser he is obviously looking to save money wherever he can. While First Milk Direct matched the price of other suppliers this year, it was the added benefit of free soil sampling kits that were on offer this spring that made the key financial difference. ![]() Six TestsHe regularly applies di-ammonium phosphate to his fields each Spring, but aware of the need to save money wherever possible, he decided to check the soil status first using the kits. Six tests were carried out on various fields, and the results came back unequivocally: there was no need to do it! Some 20 tonnes of fertiliser were duly saved at £180 a tonne – the equivalent of £3600! Said Alan: “There’s a need for First Milk Direct to grow in volume so it needs the support of members. It is useful in not only getting good prices, but in supplying things that we can’t get from anywhere else, like the cluster replacement scheme.” |
