Fertiliser Update - August 2008

The new fertiliser year, which started in June, would normally see NPK grades dropping in value against old season prices. However, this year prices have continued to strengthen - driven by rising energy costs used extensively in nitrogen production, as well as a world shortage in phosphate leading to increasing prices.

China and Russia imposed an export tax in May on fertiliser to protect their domestic farmers from higher input costs - this has further strengthened the fertiliser markets.

Although supplies are limited, First Milk Direct is able to source a wide range of fertiliser products at competitive prices. We currently have compound prices available for delivery in September.

First Milk Direct can offer a simple spread payment structure to help finance these purchases. Please contact your local area manager for further details, or Fiona Fraser on 0141 847 6817.
