While First Milk Direct can save members money with the purchase of a milk tank from Fabdec, further savings can also be made when members install a Heat Recovery system as part of the milk tank package.

Heat Recovery works by using the heat generated by the milking system and using this to clean the milk tank. Rather than heating cold water to 97-98 degrees C, heat recovery means the water is heated from 55 degrees instead thus generating significant electricity savings.

For example, a member using a 100 gallon water heater milking twice a day and producing 800 litres of water per day can save up to £1500 per year in electricity costs alone. The cost of the heat recovery system to enable such savings is approximately £3800. Using waste heat to produce hot water will also save the environment from burning fuel.
