How do you fancy Campbeltown cheese with Arran Mustard or Isle of Arran Dunlop with thick cut marmalade and Glengoyne whisky?
Following a successful joint venture with Wensleydale Dairy Products (WDP) and supermarket retailer Morrisons, the First Milk Cheese Company is looking at a further opportunities in the blended cheese market.
Morrisons approached us last year and asked us to work with WDP to develop a range of Scottish blended cheese for its delicatessen counters in its 50 Scottish stores. After a variety of combinations were considered, two options made it into the chiller cabinet over Christmas – Campbeltown Mature White with Arran Mustard and Campbeltown Mature Coloured with Onion & Chive – while the third - Isle of Arran Dunlop with thick cut marmalade containing Glengoyne whisky – was the favourite for Burns night.
Sales of the cheese went well and feedback from both the retailer and consumers show that they liked the combinations and ultimately, the taste.
Morrisons has now confirmed that the Campbeltown Mature Coloured with Onion & Chive will become a permanent deli listing in Scotland.
Sarah Boylan, who is spearheading our activity in blended cheese, said further recipes were already being considered: “This is a really exciting project to bring alive our cheese with different flavours.
“Wensleydale has the expertise in blending and we are focusing on a Scottish range first before looking at our other regional cheeses.
“This venture also enables us to take our award-winning cheese and blend with local produce to further enhance our expert regional cheese credentials,” she added.
