Our creamery on the Isle of Arran will be welcoming a new General Manager at the end of April, with the arrival of Alex Home.
Alex has enjoyed a long career in the dairy industry and has spent the last 13 years with Caledonian Cheese in Stranraer.
He is taking over the reins at our smallest creamery from Jack Phillips who, after more than 40 years in the dairy industry, is finally hanging up his ‘white coat and hairnet’.
Jack has been General Manager at Torrylinn for the last six years and is looking forward to playing more bowls and becoming more involved in junior football in his retirement.
However we are not bidding him farewell just yet. Jack is remaining with us to ensure a smooth handover with Alex who has previously worked alongside Jack.
“I’ve had an incredible career in dairying and have seen the industry endure both good times and bad. I have particularly enjoyed these last few years in Arran living from Monday to Friday within the community
and striking up strong working relationships. However I won’t be sorry to leave behind the winter ferry trips across to the island!” explained Jack.
Meanwhile Alex is looking forward to getting started at Arran. “Becoming General Manager at Arran gives me the chance to work closely with the team and drive forward the creamery. At the same time, I am delighted to be returning to a more traditional and hands-on way of making cheese, which is both a skill and an art.”
