Can you work out your farm’s figures and accounts as well as you’d like? Do you relish the idea of seeing how well your business is performing compared to other similarly sized farms? Or do you know where you want your business to be in the future, but are not sure how to get there? And do you want to do all of these things in a time-efficient and effective way?
If so, then our planned First Milk Academy Business Management workshop may provide some of the answers.
The Business Management workshop is the latest addition to First Milk Academy’s personal development workshops for members.
Our academic partners, the Royal Agricultural College are working with Richard Simpson, from Kingshay, to put together a four-day professional development workshop to help members move their business forward by arming you with the analytical tools and skills for better business management. Areas covered in the workshop will include:
• understanding management accounts and how to get the best from them so you can make better decisions as a result. Case study accounts will be analysed, plus anonymous real life ones from contributing members; • benchmarking, to compare productivity and profit levels; • expansion planning, to assist those who are considering expansion to fully account for the various factors that need to be looked at as well as the impact of expansion on the farm during the change period. • business assessment and progression, to make it all happen; • maximising profitability, to ensure it adds to, not detracts from, the bottom line.
“The four day workshop will allow farmers to take a step back from their business, and analyse it from a distance, using standard business assessment and management tools”, explained Richard Simpson. “I hope that it will help farmers to reassess their businesses and develop strategies to put them on a stronger more profitable footing for the future.”
More details will be announced in the near future, but a pilot course is being planned during the spring or early summer.
